Guidelines to follow
Educators will:
- Encourage children to flush the toilet after use and assist or educate children to wash their hands after toileting using the guidelines on hand washing technique.

- Handwashing and other hygiene procedures should be followed by the educator and the children after using the toilet.
- Ask parents/guardians to provide a change of cloth to help children to change as and when necessary
During toilet training
- Remind children every now and then to go to toilet
- A non-slip step should be used to enable a child to have independent access to toilet/hand washing facilities and prevent possible back injuries to educators
- Guide the child to use the toilet whilst respecting the child’s privacy
- Handwashing and other hygiene procedures should be followed by the educator and the children after using the toilet.
- Toileting should be discussed between educator and parent before toilet training commences and must take the child’s developmental stage into consideration.
