Health, hygiene and safe food practices
Policy:
We at FIRST IDEA FAMILY DAY CARE SERVICES, are committed to minimise the risks to children by implementing adequate health and hygiene practices and safe practices for handling preparing and storing food.
Scope
These guidelines will apply to the Approved provider, nominated supervisor, Certified supervisor, educators, staff, students on placement, volunteers, parents, children and others attending the service.
Procedures
At FIRST IDEA FAMILY DAY CARE SERVICES, we ensure to minimise risk to children by practicing safe food handling, necessary hygiene practices.
Educators are responsible for:
- Ensuring the children are reminded and encouraged to wash hands before and after eating.
- Ensuring the environment is cleaned regularly to avoid any cross contamination
- Have a separate eating area for health and supervision purposes
- Clean the utensils as required
- Ensure safe practices for handling, preparing and storing food.
- Be aware of safety standards for storing and reheating food bought in from home.
Approved provider/nominated supervisors/supervisors will
- Ensure the educators and other stake holders have understood the guidelines
- Regular home visits to support the educators to follow the guideline.
